I teach private violin and viola in my home studio in Ellicott City, Maryland, along with my assistant teacher and college aged daughter, Mira Vaughn. Please contact Nana Vaughn to arrange an audition/trial lesson. My teaching schedule is very limited due to my college teaching and performances.
Mira is currently accepting online students only. In-person lessons may be taught in our Ellicott City studio when Mira is home for breaks. No audition is needed, however a trial lesson is recommended to make sure it's a good fit and that the online format will work.

Course of Study
The main purpose of private lessons is to help the student become an independent and lifelong learner in music. My course of study helps build a solid foundation in physical set-up, note reading, listening skills, interpretation, musicality, and ensemble. Students are expected to practice regularly at home to reinforce concepts learned in lessons. As part of their preparation, students will play in a studio recital once per year, create audio recording projects, perform at solo and ensemble festivals, and prepare for other auditions, festivals, summer camps, ensembles, and college auditions, as the student desires.
As a parent, Nana has helped guide three brilliant, quirky, artistic children into adulthood. Her kids participated in everything from the Davidson Young Scholars for children who are identified as "profoundly gifted" with an IQ score over 145; to speech therapy for auditory processing disorder; to activities from art to gymnastics to music and youth orchestras. These parenting experiences have greatly influenced how she teaches - she approaches each child as an individual with unique gifts and challenges.
